Café Régalade French Bistropriss | September 24, 2011
Beau took me to Café Régalade on my birthday! It’s owned by Steeve Rayé, the son of Alain Rayé (owner/chef at West Vancouver’s award-winning La Régalade). Another gem in Kits I must say.
The restaurant is not that big and it reminds me of the ones in France — small, cozy… very French! Love the touch of the red color throughout the restaurant.
Bread is a must in a French place. What came before Café Régalade was Steeve Rayé’s pastry shop, so they can’t screw up the bread. =) As expected, they are soft and fluffy. MmmMmmmm~
Caquelon of Snails ~ $9.95
aka escargot. We licked it clean along with the bread! Very well done!!
Trio of Salads ~ $12.50
Quinoa with Fresh Fruit, Basil & Pine Nuts
This is our favorite of the three!
Tomato with Romesco Sauce
Very refreshing. Loved the interesting flavors all combined together.
Fennel and Lemon Salad
We found the lemon was a bit overpowering, so it tasted a bit too bitter.
Le Cassoulet De La Régalade ~ $17.50
A classic dish from the south of France – slow-cooked bean casserole containing meat like
pork sausages, pork, duck, and ham. It was quite filling and I couldn’t finish it!
Braised Beef Short Ribs in Peppercorn Sauce ~ $19.95
Beau absolutely loved it! I had a taste and the peppercorn was a nice kick to the dish!
What do I think?
Definitely a gem in Kits! We’d be back for sure and totally encourage you to try it. You can tell the dishes were prepared with an heart, and I surely hope the bistro will last, unlike the pastry shop beforehand. =)
They have daily and monthly features, so don’t miss out on them when you order. Reservation is strongly recommended, in advance please. When we were there, it was packed and there were at least 3-4 walk-in groups that got turned away. & when we called up the restaurant the first time on a Saturday afternoon, hoping we could go for dinner, it was already fully booked.
I like how the restaurant reminds me so much of France. Ahh good memories with Beau! Hopefully I will have time to post the reviews for the restaurants during our Europe trip!!!
