Baru Latino Restaurante ~ Columbian.Peruvian.Ecuadorian
priss | August 4, 2010What a gem in the city ma fellow foodies have found! Baru Latino is totally a spot for foodies to hang out with Latin music and chic-looking decor. Their website reads:
“Created by three young Colombians who came to Canada in search of a new lifestyle. Two architects and a former anthropologist that pursued a cooking career in Vancouver created a piece of South America, bringing to Vancouver new flavors, music and culture.
Baru Latino is a comfortable minimal space where the passion for food and design came together. This is one of those small wonders, designed for appreciative eaters who want to be part of a new South American experience, where flavors from Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina come together in creative way.”
Well said! They definitely have accomplished what they have hoped for. Well done guys! But seriously you need a better website! Drop me a line & I’ll cut you a deal. =p
Oh if you are a ceviche-kinda person, this is the place for ya! They have 4 kinds of ceviche for you to choose from. =)

I adore their design!

To start off, Latin Chips ~ Cassava, yam and plantain chips with a selection of 3 salsas. $5
I can’t remember what they were but they all worked with the chips. MmmMmMMMMmmmm~

Beef Tiradito ~ Seared beef carpaccio, with chimichurri andyam frits. $12

Baru Ceviche ~ Shrimp and halibut, with fresh lemon juice, avocado, tomatoes, onion and cilantro. $12

Cordero del Monte ~ Seared lamb sirloin, hogo stewed beans over spinach with red wine demi and roasted beets. $20

Jumbo prawn in tomato and herbs sauce.

Chipotle Mussels ~ Local mussels in a chipotle cream broth with spanish chorizo, fresh tomatoes and cilantro. Served with home made flat bread. $12 Love the fresh mussels. Love the spicy kick coming from the chorizo. This one was sooo good that we didn’t want to waste a single drop of the broth. mmMmMmm We kept asking our pretty waitress for more bread over.. and over… and over again. =p

We ate so much that I seriously don’t recall what this dish was. Oh my!!!

Pacific ScallopsSeared scallops in a sweet corn saffron sauce with potato jalapeno pave. $12

Latin Empanadas ~ Corn turnovers filled with your choice of mozzarella, shrimp or beef. $8

Steak Chimichurri ~ 7 oz. flat iron steak, with chimichurri, served with potato jalapeno pave and roasted beets .$20
The steak was a bit too chewy for me but hey, it’s probably because ma tummy didn’t have too much room left!!! =p

What do I think?
Delicioso!!! The white sangria we ordered complemented everything perfectly. Such a summer drink! But we did wish they could put more wine to it ’cause it did taste a bit water down. Other than that, absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant, attentive staffs, great food, great music, great foodie friends! =p
