Banana Leaf ~ Malaysian Cuisine
priss | August 3, 2010Yumm yumm yummmmmm~
We’ve always wanted to try Banana Leaf after hearing all these raves about it from fellow foodies. Finally we managed to have a date together from our busy schedules on Monday night! I wasn’t going to write a review for it simply because there are already a ton out there, but half way into our delicious adventure, ma taste buds signaled me to stop chewing and eating non-stop to take pictures. =p

Satay – Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb / $1.5 each. + Roti Canai / $6
We got chicken beef and lamb, and personally we loved the chicken satay, not so much of the beef.
The roti was amazing. Great crispy texture and yummy home-made sauce. I could eat it all day long.
See what I told you, by the time pictures were taken the satays and roti were 2/3 gone. XD

Malaysian Curry Chicken / $13
Bone-in chicken legs and thigh with potato stewed in red curry, lemon grass & coconut milk.
Tender chicken and well-made curry with tiny bits of potato. Took some left-over for bo D and even he said omg it was so good!

Sole Fillet Grilled in Banana Leaf / $15
Boneless sole fillet slathered with sambal chilli sauce blended with lemongrass, chilli, galangal, and dried shrimp paste.
This one was the killer! Too good to describe, and no joke! Beau and I were both wow’ed by how well all the ingredients worked together. But if you don’t like shrimp paste this is probably not gonna do much for ya. Our favorite dish of the whole night~

Braised Lamb Shank in Cumin & Star Anise / $16
A lamb shank so tender it almost falls off the bone, braised with ginger, leek, carrots & spinach.
The lamb did fall off da bone.

To complement the 3 mains (yea our appetites were once again waaaay bigger than the actual size of our tummies), we ordered some coconut rice. Yuuuummmmmyyy~
Coconut Rice in Banana Leaf / $2
Rice wrapped in fresh banana leaf cooked with coconut milk.

Wish the cute waitress took a less blurry picture,
& wish beau didn’t have the stupid coldsore so that he could enjoy the food 721%

What do I think?
Definitely taking bo ma, bo ba, bo D and beau’s family there!! & the sole fillet is a must-ordered item. Saw the pineapple fried rice on the table next to us and I wanted to ask if they were willing to share. =p I hope they’ll keep up the good taste especially after winning so many awards. But their website definitely need a face-lift. It simply doesn’t fit their food, restaurant or brand. Wanna give me a call? Haha~

Wow!! You guys can eat!! I totally admire you! You eat a lot and still can be in such a good fit! Loooved the review!
Hahahaha!!! We exercise that’s why. =p & I totally miss Flamenco!!!
