Round 2~Griffins: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver
priss | July 4, 2010As promised, I took bo ba, bo ma, and bo D to try Griffins yesterday. For me and beau, it was round 2 for us, and we were happy that everyone enjoyed the dinner. For me, I was probably the happiest because Griffins did something very special for me.
Bo ba and I got the appetizer buffet – yes, I did… I couldn’t resist!! It’s SEAFOOD!!! =p So I think I had like 3 full plates! Hahha;
bo ma had the Queen Charlotte Halibut with lobster & lemon risotto, caramelized fennel and roasted tomato emulsion – the fish was a bit too bland, but perfect for bo ma, who prefers less salt. Plus I think it was done on purpose so the lobster & lemon risotto could add a little complement to the main ingredient;
bo D had the mixed grill featuring chicken, lamb chop, and beef tenderloin with salad & onion rings and chimichurri sauce – bo D loved it and started chewing on the beef tenderloin with his hands. -_-” They did a great job on the chimichurri sauce btw!;
and lastly beau got the slow roasted Alberta prime rib – he said it’s sooo much better than The Keg’s. Duh!! Of course!
Silly me, I forgot to bring my Lumix GF1!! Sorry no pictures. =( I wish I could use words to describe how delicious each dish tasted, and that someone can invent smell coming out of words on ma blog. Wow, wouldn’t that be great?!??!! =) Seeing ma family happy and stuffed with good food is probably the best thing a restaurant can do for me. Griffins did it, and they surely went extra miles to please their customers.
So it was dessert buffet time; needlessly to say, ma family loved all the good looking desserts! It’s tough for bo ba and bo ma to love western desserts you know? Being Chinese, they (and I) always… always find them way too sweet. Yet seeing them bringing plates after plates of the pretty desserts, I knew ma parents really liked them. Excelente!!
As I was enjoying ma own plate of watermelon, cream puffs, and palmiers, our waitress came over with a full bowl of ma favorite gooseberries.
She whispered, “someone in the kitchen knows that you love gooseberries, so we thought you’d love a bowl full of them. Enjoy!”
“WOW! These are for me? Oh my god. Thank you soooo much!”
I was stunned, overwhelmed, ecstatic, … felt like I could fly… I was speechless, so was beau! He made a comment at our first visit that I should just pick the gooseberries all out from the rice pudding so people wouldn’t know there was supposed to be a gooseberry on it. So we spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out how they knew I love gooseberries. The verdict was that my dad had left me a gooseberry from his dessert, and had asked our waitress not to take the plate away yet.
Feeling special, I continue enjoying ma palmiers. =) Then the manager walked over (I think his name is Serge) and asked how the desserts was. I couldn’t wait praising to him on the thoughtfulness of our waitress, only to be interrupted by him.
“We have your blog,” he said.
“…… eh? what?”
He pointed at the kitchen and said, “we have your blog at the back.” Then he turned, walked into the kitchen, and came back out with a stack of print-outs of my review on Griffins.
As he was flipping through it, he said, “this is you right? We saw you came in, and we were like… that’s her! So we prepared you a whole bowl of gooseberries.”
HAHAHAHAAH!!! OMG… I felt soooooooo special. Wow, I’m very impressed.
& then again, I wanted to kick myself for not bringing the camera!!! Grrrr… so beau took some low quality pictures on his work blackberry for me. =D

I was really like a little girl in gooseberry land~ Very happy~

Finished!!!!!!! & I didn’t share!!! =p

We rolled out of there happy, satisfied, and stuffed, and me…. got gooseberries overloaded!!! HAHA~ Thank you Griffins! =)
Life’s good! ♥
